Joy Today is shaking hands with a baby monkey.

When asked why I need a rabies shot I replied "I can not not touch monkies..."

I really should have had that rabies shot...

Pretty darn cute, but the chance of being bitten is there - even unintentional by the monkey (something startles them and they react).

Ode To Joy is a worldwide reality show / documentary on the subject of Joy. Season 1 will explore several countries in Southeast Asia over 4 months, interacting with the enthusiasm of humans on many levels. As the viewer we will experience and explore our natural impetus for celebration. From the macro of national festivals to the micro of the birth of a baby, we’ll watch as humans across the world celebrate life. Imagine what it’s like to drink champagne aboard a ship in the largest yacht club in Vietnam, or enter the subcultural Bangkok Punk Rock scene...if it’s humans enjoying life, we’ll be there. In showcasing humanity’s finest moments we can reflect on our amusing differences and identify the singular strains that connect all us humans to this wonderful emotion. As one culture smiles, we all smile.

WHY SOUTHEAST ASIA?

While in India on a previous project, I fell in love with the people of the sub-continent and knew I would return. The prespective shift in this exoitic land opened my eyes and lens to new experiences. The heart of the Indian people, poor to rich flooded me with inspiration for this project. In these countries exist an enormous spectrum of culture. From huge cities on the cutting edge of modern innovation to small villages void of internet and tourists. Exploring Asia offers a rich setting with an eiversxotic de and friendly people. Another exceptional reason is economics; the USD travels a long way in Asia. Being a man of modest means I aim to do the biggest and best project dollar to baht. For an average of only $50 a day I can send home an exciting show full of wonder, adventure, travel and expression of the inner exuberance of the people in this region.

WHERE WILL THIS PROJECT APPEAR?

OdeToJoy.tv will start in the grassroots territory of YouTube as an episodic web show, edited from the road and brought to the viewer. The show will be shot in such a fashion that each 5 minute episode will stand on it’s own, or be integrated along common themes for 30 or 45 minute broadcasts. Additionally, the collective Season 1 will be made into a feature length film allowing for many avenues for a marketable product.

Our marketing director will continually target social networking avenues to grow our audience through a series of daily updates, photos, and the finished episodes themselves. We will pursue Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Tumblr and the Lonely Planet blog among many other powerful networking tools to repost our broadcasts and disseminate the project. OdeToJoy will also be reposted on Facebook page of Picture This, one of Portland’s leading production services websites. This will constantly bring our project to the majority of Portland’s leading motion picture professionals and their customers. The list will grow as the project does.

The goal of Season 1 is to create a “proof of concept series” to pitch to the increasing number of well-known entities producing or purchasing original content. From there, we will increase production value and crew members to discover and document worldwide celebration.
